This is strange. I have work bright and early tomorrow (and when I’m done, I can go to my first coffee and code session!) And yet, I really want to attend my Vector-Calc class. The reason why, is because I handed in an assignment, and on the assignment, I wrote a limerick for my TA. Why did I write it? Well, it was the last question, and I guess I was overly happy. I started presenting my answers in a story format, and I guess I realized that “attack” and “fact” kinda rhymed. I really wanted to see what she thought of it. Here’s the limerick:
Now I will use the previous fact,
On the problem I wish to attack:
Question eight b,
So you can see
An answer that is exact!
Its kinda lame, and the meter is just horrible, but as you can sorta tell, I really like poetry! Its interesting and a challenge, to phrase your words, in such a way, that it rhymes and sounds good too. Because poetry is only good, if its read outloud!
That’s one of the reasons why I have a great respect for rap artists, to be able to tell such clever stories, often on the spot, that would rhyme with such rhythm. It always takes me a bit to think of something. I almost always succumb to my favourite rhyme zone. I’ve been facinated with poetry ever since I was a kid, and <aww>my mother always enjoyed simple poem’s I’d write for her as a gift,</aww> so I’ve been writing stuff here and there for a few years now. I still remember my first limerick I wrote, 6570 days ago…
I once had a fish named Fred,
And all that he ate was bread,
To the bathroom we went,
Fun times there we spent,
Until down the toilet he sped.
My teacher loved it, and made me write an entire “backstory” for the school newspaper. I’ve never written a computer science-related one yet. That’s it. I’m going to do it. No one is gonna stop me! This is why I was put on this earth. Here gooeeees!!
There once as a TA named Anton,
….
It appears there’s no good rhymes for Anton. Plus being a computer science TA doesn’t truly make it really “computer science-related”. Okay, second try. If I fail, that’s it. Going to bed!
While my condition is equal to true,
I promise to always love you,
Oh wait there's a cake!
I guess I can break...
I hope you won't bid me adieu!
The… uh…”I promise to always love you” line…was dedicated to my lovely girlfriend. Just in case! Regardless, that was sorta fun. I have time for one more.
Fibonacci(n) is what I wish to find,
And I want to do it in quick time,
So I decided to recurse,
A tree to traverse,
The solution in the subproblems combined!
Hrm, recursion? Fibonacci? Quickly? As you should of seen from my previous post, it won’t be quick. This sucks, I’ve failed!
Anyways, that’s enough for tonight. I’ll leave you my best poem (at least I think). I wrote it while I was at UTM. It was for my “reading poetry” class. Its not nerdy, in fact its more romantic (possibly cheesy) then anything. I guess a part of my romantic side managed to escape my nerd-gravity just for a bit.

In case you can’t read the hideous font, its:
My Angel divine,
Forever be mine. The sight of your eyes,
My happy demise. The sound of your voice,
My soul will rejoice. The smell of your hair,
Far sweeter than air.The touch of your hand,
I can’t even stand. The taste of your lips,
A mental eclipse.Forever with me,
I need you to be.
With this poem, I wanted to show how a woman is appreciated through all your five senses. Every line is only 5 syllables, and its a rhyme scheme of AA, BB, etc…, which gives it a really nice and quick meter. Hope you enjoyed it!
